Let's talk about food.

I am proud to be taking part in Blog Action Day OCT 16 2011 www.blogactionday.org

Today is Blog action day and the topic is Food. Assuming you live and breathe you have seen and heard all the stories about famine, whole families dying of malnutrition, and all of the other medical problems that can occur from lack of proper nutrition. So, I am not going to hammer you over the head about trying to make a difference, about giving a little something, about helping others. Instead, I wanted to tell you how thankful I am to have all my favorite foods at my finger tips. AND to have all those foods that aren't my favorites there as well. I'm not a fan of beets- so I choose not to eat them. I am a fan of pizza- so I choose to eat it. I am fortunate. I am grateful. Although Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away, I remind myself how important it is to be thankful today and everyday. #FOOD #BAD11

What have we done?

#deathpenalty #TooMuchDoubt @BarackObama

Dear Mr. President,

Where is the justice in the execution of Mr. Davis? We are merely humble beings; taking life should not be within our power. It should not be an option. Justice wasn't served. We can never have an eye for an eye. One who commits an unthinkable, heinous criminal act can never be punished enough. S/ he will never suffer as the victim did or the victim's family. But killing someone because we can is not Justice. The Justice system is not perfect. It is a human system flawed because we are flawed. For all of its imperfections how can we ever, ever be so certain- so arrogant to say to another human being 'you shall be put to death'. At 11:08pm , 9/21/11 at the Announcement of his execution, I shed a tear for Troy Davis, for America , for all of us, and for our mistakes. Because tonight we didn't embrace our flaws.

The death penalty should be a national concern. It should be part of the discussion in the upcoming election. I know that Americans are struggling financially and most conversations must address that crisis. But I would hope we always have time to check our moral compass.
